PUC rejects US Congress resolution about elections in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP): The Pakistan Ulema Council on Thursday rejected the anti-Pakistan resolution passed in the US Congress, condemning the double standards of the United States.

PUC Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi and other scholars, in a joint statement, said the issue of elections was an internal matter of Pakistan which would have to be resolved by its political and religious parties and people.

They said the Government of Pakistan’s decision of tabling a resolution in the Parliament against the US Congress American resolution was a step in the right direction.

“We appeal to the leaders of all the political and religious parties present in the Parliament to unanimously pass the resolution,” they added.

The scholars and Ulema attached with the PUC would condemn the US resolution in their Friday sermons as any interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan could be accepted under any circumstances, they added.

Besides the PUC chairman, Allama Abdul Haq Mujahid, Maulana Muhammad Rafiq Jami, Maulana Muhammad Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Muhammad Asad Zakaria Qasmi, Maulana Nauman Hasher, Maulana Asadullah Farooq, Allama Zubair Abid, Allama Tahirul Hasan, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Aziz Akbar Qasmi and others signed the statement.
