President YPP Ubaid ur Rehman led delegation to foster Engagement with Commonwealth, British Institutions


ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):The Youth Parliament of Pakistan (YPP) delegation embarked on a landmark visit to the United Kingdom, aimed at strengthening ties and fostering collaboration with key Commonwealth and British institutions.
This visit underscores the commitment to building bridges of mutual understanding and cooperation on global issues affecting youth, a news release said.
The delegation, led by Ubaid ur Rehman Qureshi, President of the Youth Parliament of Pakistan, comprised a diverse group of ten young leaders, activists, influencers, and policy-makers. This visit marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to foster international cooperation, enhance educational opportunities, and promote youth engagement in global governance.
During the visit, the delegation had the privilege of meeting with Members of Parliament, including Catherine West, Rehman Chishti, Khalid Mahmood, Afzal Khan, and the Rt. Hon Dame Rosie Winterton, Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons. Delegates also witnessed the proceedings of Prime Minister’s Question Time and attended a session in the House of Lords, followed by interactions with the Commonwealth Secretariat and representatives of the UK Youth Parliament.
The delegation also visited the regional parliaments of Wales and Scotland, interacting with regional parliament members and government officials to learn about policies for youth and opportunities for Pakistan. Notably, they had an interaction with former First Minister Hamza Yousaf and witnessed the Question Hour.
President Ubaid Qureshi remarked, “The purpose is to engage youngsters in public diplomacy to depict a true positive image of Pakistan at a broader level. Such delegations will help to strengthen bilateral relations through youth engagements among Commonwealth states and emphasize developing understanding about global challenges.”
Spokesperson Dr Waiza Rehman stated, “This visit has been an invaluable opportunity for our young leaders to gain insights, share experiences, and forge lasting partnerships with counterparts in the United Kingdom. It is through such exchanges that we can collectively work towards a more inclusive and prosperous future for our youth.”
The delegation also had the privilege of visiting the University of Oxford, where they engaged with academic leaders and students. They explored potential partnerships that could facilitate scholarships, research collaborations, and cultural exchanges.
In addition to their engagements with political and educational institutions, the delegation met with Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr Paul, President of the London Mayor’s Association Cllr Robert Rigby, and respective youth councils.
These meetings focused on community development areas where both Pakistan and the UK share common goals, with prospects of joint projects to address pressing social issues and enhance community well-being.
Delegates included Qaiser Jamil Advocate – Secretary IR, Dr Waiza Rehman – Spokesperson, Yahya Mir – Secretary Media, Motaber Ali Shaikh – Cabinet Member, Muhammad Idrees – Cabinet Member, Sidra Akhtar – Executive Member, Hira Bilal – Secretary Information, and Bakhtawar Mahmood – Executive Member.
Two delegates, Babar Khan – International Ambassador and Zubaria Khalil, joined as representatives of the overseas community of Pakistan.
As the delegation returns to Pakistan, they are committed to implementing the knowledge and experiences gained from this visit to further their mission of empowering young people and fostering a more inclusive and prosperous society. President Qureshi aims to host a delegation from Britain in Pakistan, with a commitment to fostering and strengthening bilateral relations among Commonwealth states.
