Rivers Indus, Kabul continue to flow in medium, low flood: FFC


ISLAMABAD, Aug 12 (APP): The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that owing to persistent high temperatures in the catchment areas (Skardu) combined with recent rainfall, the Indus River is flowing in “Medium Flood” between Taunsa and Guddu, and in “Low Flood” between Tarbela and Chashma, as well as at the Sukkur Barrage while the Kabul River is also running in “Low Flood” level at Nowshera.

According to daily FFC report on Monday, all other major rivers in the Indus River System, including the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are maintaining normal flow levels. The combined live storage of the country’s major reservoirs (Tarbela, Mangla, and Chashma) stands at 10.509 MAF which is 77.53% of the total live storage capacity of 13.354 MAF.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over South Uttar Pradesh (India) lies over North Madhya Pradesh (India) whereas Westerly Wave trough previously over Northern Pakistan has moved away in Eastwards direction. Seasonal Low is positioned over Northern Balochistan and light to moderate moist currents from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are now penetrating into most parts of Pakistan upto 3000 feet.

For the ensuing 24 hours, FFD, Lahore has predicted isolated thunderstorm rain of Moderate Intensity over Islamabad, Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Bahawalpur & D.G.Khan Divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu & D.I.Khan Divisions) and Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad & Kalat Divisions) including upper catchments of all major rivers of IRS.
