ISLAMABAD, Jul 25 (APP):Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday praised President Asif Ali Zardari for strengthening democracy and upholding the constitution.
At a ceremony organized by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, on the 69th birthday of Asif Ali Zardari, he also appreciated the dedication and sacrifices of the Pakistan People’s party (PPP) leadership.
He said, “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto not only made Pakistan a nuclear power but also made its defense impregnable. For the prosperity of the people and the country, Shaheed Bhutto gave the gift of the Constitution” he added.
He added that the PPP leadership has tirelessly work for the strengthen democracy in the country, upheld the constitution, empowered women, and brought uplift of the public. Endless sacrifices of the leadership of PPP are commendable, he said.
After Bhutto’s martyrdom, Benazir Bhutto followed in her father’s footsteps, strengthening of democracy, upholding the constitution, and fostering public service.
Following Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, President Asif Ali Zardari took over the reins of the country, gifted the 18th Amendment, ended the exploitation of the provinces, and ensured the provision of equal rights to all provinces.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the current PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in advancing the country’s progress and prosperity.
He credited Bilawal Bhutto Zardari ‘s tireless work for the fact that both President Asif Ali Zardari and he himself hold their current positions.
With two provincial governments and two governorships, the PPP remains committed to its constitutional and public welfare struggles.
He said, “President Asif Ali Zardari sent the case of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to the court, fulfilled the long-standing demand of the people, and proved his murder was a judicial murder. The court admitted that he was not given a free trial.”
He also highlighted his own unlawful removal as Prime Minister but reaffirmed their dedication to democracy and the country’s survival. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party is the only party in the country that has made the most sacrifices for democracy and upholding the constitution.
He said that Asif Ali Zardari is actively working to bring prosperity to the country and is striving to bring development and prosperity to the four provinces.
